Becoming an actor or actress one day is the dream of many children as they are captivated by the entertainment world. It’s so fascinating, who wouldn’t want to be a part of it? Of course, being an actor or actress is hard work and not everyone is cut out for it. But if you think this is a career that you would be willing to put forth the effort needed then the tips below can help you get started.

• Passion For Acting – The first step to becoming an actor or actress is to have a real passion and desire for acting. It can’t be something that you are doing because someone else wants you too or because it seems fun. It’s true that acting can be exciting and fun but it also takes commitment, fortitude and hard work. It wouldn’t be worth the effort to someone who doesn’t really care about it. Plus, finding work can be very challenging and stressful at times.

• Commitment – You must be committed to be a success. Once committed to having a career as an actor or actress the next step is to receive as much experience as you can. Going to an acting school is a great idea where you can be trained by professionals and taught the skills needed to make it in this type of environment. Don’t accept just any acting school. Do your research and find one that is trusted and committed to providing you with the training you truly need. Don’t make the mistake of thinking that you can’t afford getting this kind of experience because some schools are both good and affordable. You just have to take your time and look for the right one.

• Portfolios – Put together a portfolio and get your name out there. People have to hear about you, your training and interests before any opportunities will come your way. Whenever you have the opportunity to attend an event or party where you could get noticed, do so. Don’t be shy but always dress appropriately and be respectable. You never know who is watching in the background.

• Protect Your Reputation – Don’t put yourself in a position where your reputation could be ruined before your career even has time to take off. For instance, don’t drink excessively at a party or big event, drive under the influence or use illegal drugs. If you have a Myspace page (like so many people do today), check your site often to make sure there is nothing that could damage your reputation. You never know who is looking at your profile. It could be a potential employer that was considering hiring you until they visited your Myspace page.

• Be Prepared At All Times – When your opportunity comes along you need to be prepared. You never know when you will get an opportunity to show off your acting talent or who will be watching when you do. The better you perform, the more of an impression you will make.

Following the suggestions above can help you become an actor or actress. Eventually, you may have to relocate, depending on where you originally live. This is because you need to be in an area where you have opportunities in order to get the jobs that will help build your name. In the meantime, get as much training and experience as you can so you will be ready when opportunity comes along.
