How do you know what agency for acting to choose to represent your acting career? Talent agencies are used as a go-between for actors and studios. The studio must go through a talent agency when they want to hire actors. Talent agencies first came into existence because of the disputes between actors and studios. The top talent agencies will only represent the actors and actresses that have already made an impressive name for themselves.

Therefore, it goes without saying that a new actor would not be considered by these agencies. However, there are other agencies available that will help you launch your career and work your way to the top. To enhance your career you need to be able to tell a legitimate agency from a bad one. Many talent agencies go out searching for new talent. They will approach you and ask you to meet with them. It’s vital that you only consider working with agencies that are legitimate and that you know the difference.

Qualities of a legitimate talent agency:

• They will be licensed and registered with the main actors union.
• They will be listed with the Screen Actors Guild.
• They will receive 10 percent of the commission off the jobs they book.
• They can provide you with references and a background history.

The talent agency that you choose is very important. The agency itself is rated by Hollywood according to the experience they have, who they know and who they have represented in the past. It’s possible to be chosen for a job over someone with more experience simply because your agency has a better reputation. This is another reason why you need to choose wisely.

They will be dealing with the casting directors and setting up auditions for you. They will also discuss the contract for the job available and negotiate your salary. They play a big role in your acting career and you need to carefully choose the talent agency that will be representing you. If you have doubts about an agency you are considering signing up with then take some time to learn more about them. Do your research and make sure they have a good reputation and good connections.

Find out in advance exactly what they have to offer you and if it’s not what you’re searching for, then look for a new agency. Don’t be pressured into signing with an agency that you feel uncomfortable with. It’s your career on the line so you need to be confident that the agency representing you truly does have your best interest in mind. Choosing a talent agency is a big step that shouldn’t be rushed into. Take you time, gather information, compare agencies and then make your decision.
