Acting Techniques

Acting is fun, exciting and very challenging. It’s a career that is full of competition and only the best will survive. You have to be committed and willing to put forth a lot of effort into your career to be successful. You need to have some good techniques that will help you stand out from all the rest. So which techniques are the best? Which ones will get you noticed and help enhance your acting career? The answer to these questions will help you build your career and be the actor or actress you want to be.

When acting, it’s important to be yourself. Audition for parts that enhance your personality and you will enhance your career. When you feel comfortable with your part it will come more naturally and you will perform better. Keep in mind that you are not committed directly to the script but your objective is to become the character and react the way they would in each given situation if it was really happening.

Each time you are acting you need to get into the overall scene. For example, why is your character saying a specific line or performing a certain action? To do this you need to be aware of everything that is going on around you. Is your character angry, happy or sad? Understanding why they are feeling this way will help you get into character.

Pay close attention to your fellow actors. There will be times when you simply must be able to act spontaneously with the other actors in the scene. The script is an outline or guide that you must follow but it can’t tell you how to respond to what the other actors are doing. You must watch, listen and respond naturally and then stay in character by moving on with your lines.

It’s vital that you know your lines. Go over them as much as necessary to make sure you know what to say and when to say it. However, don’t put body movements and gestures with the dialog until you are actually performing. Let the reactions to the words come naturally the way a person would actually respond if they were in a real live situation. This will help you become a better actor and greatly enhance your career.

Always be prepared before you step onto a set. Going in unprepared will hurt you more than you can imagine. Get plenty of rest the night before, get up early and make sure you have everything ready before you head out to the studio. Once there, give it your all and don’t let distractions interfere with your performance. Follow these acting techniques and they can help you be on your way to the top.
