Be prepared. Know a little about the part you are auditioning for. know a little about the people you will be auditioning for. If it’s a local production talk to some people who have worked with the casting director and find out what have chosen in the past. Be professional… be on time, be confident (no matter how scared you are. It is acting, you know, you better know how to do confidence!) and one more thing. Figure out what works. That means If you wear a pink hat every time you are chosen, wear a pink hat every time you are auditioning! It’s a psychology thing, but if you get a routine that you follow every time you audition, you will be much more relaxed and prepared. In high school every time I was on the wrestling team and every match I did the same thing. Same meal, dressed in the same order, tied my shoes the same way, had a Heshey bar with nuts that I ate while i was dressing. I don’t think that made me a better wrestler, but I think it won me a lot of matches by focusing my mind on the task at hand. I think the same principle applies to acting. Get a routine that works and stick with it. Oh yes, one more thing. You probably will get rejected more than you get picked, so if there is a way to do it gracefully, find out why you weren’t picked so you can do it differently next time. And always be gracious and always thank them for their time and for the opportunity.
